PRINCETON, NJ – On Sept. 12, a Birch Avenue resident reported that the undercarriage of their Honda CR-V was damaged and the catalytic converter was stolen. The theft occurred sometime between Sept. 4 and Sept. 6, while the car was parked on Birch Avenue.
As catalytic converter thefts have been increasing in the area recently. Thieves target it because it has parts made of expensive metal with a street value of over $250. Princeton Police shared a handy guide for residents to protect their vehicles and prevent theft.
Here are a few suggestions:
On Sept. 13, patrols were dispatched to a bank on Nassau Street after an ATM repair technician found signs of tampering and skimming devices installed inside the ATM machine. The Detective Bureau is investigating.
On Sept. 13police conducted a motor vehicle stop on Snowden Lane after they found the passenger side of the car had no headlight. The driver was found to have an active warrant for his arrest from the Monroe Municipal Court in the amount of $750. The man was processed, posted bail and released from custody, police said.
On Sept. 17, a resident of Mulberry Row reported to police that sometime between Sept. 13 and Sept. 17, the front windshield of her Chevrolet Impala was damaged. The Detective Bureau is investigating.
