The number of temporary work placements in Portugal increased by 4,300 in June 2022 when compared to June 2021, according to research from the Portuguese Association of Companies in the Private Sector of Employment and Human Resources and ISCTE (University Institute of Lisbon).
The Temporary Work Index (TT Index) for June 2022 stood at 1.14 while the overall number of placements in June 2022 stood at 34,954.
Growth has been gradual since the beginning of the year, settling at 1.09 in April, 1.10 in May and 1.14 in June.
Meanwhile, the number of temporary work placements increased by 11.1% in the second quarter of 2022 compared to the same period of the previous year, to 103,152.
In June 2022, distribution by sector found that ‘Manufacture of components and accessories for motor vehicles’ represented 10.0% of the total number of contracts signed. This was followed by the provision of meals for events and other meal service activities (8.0%), the sector of “Ancillary transport activities” (5.0%) , the ‘Manufacture of other non-refractory porcelain and ceramic products’ sector (3.6%) and the ‘Manufacture of articles made of plastic materials’ (3.5%).
By occupation, ‘other elementary professions’ made up 24.7% of contracts, followed by ‘supply, warehouse, production support services and transport employees’ (17.7%), ‘skilled workers in the manufacture of precision instruments, jewellers, artisans and the like’ (10.1%), ‘unskilled workers in the manufacturing industry’ (9.6%) and ‘meal preparation assistants’ (7.9%).
Basic education was the predominant level of education in the placements made (66.3% of those placed), followed by secondary education with 27.2%.
