People who buy new diesel vehicles with Euro 4 specifications must be more observant in choosing the appropriate type of fuel.If it is wrong, for example using a lower quality, there will be a haunting risk. The government has determined that all new diesel vehicles sold in Indonesia must meet Euro 4 specifications starting April 12, 2022. Previously, Indonesia implemented Euro 2.The transition was stipulated in a government regulation released 2017, but its implementation can only be done this year.Low quality diesel fuel can be identified by checking the cetane number (CN).The lower the CN content, the worse the quality of the diesel fuel.Meanwhile, diesel fuel suitable for Euro 4 engines is recommended to have a CN number as low as 51. This must be considered because in the market there are still many circulating diesel fuel with a CN value of 48.Mitsubishi Fuso on its official website explains that Euro 4 fuel must contain sulfur levels below 50 ppm, while for Euro 2 standards it can contain sulfur levels below 500 ppm. This difference is due to the Euro 4 engine technology being different from the Euro 2.Head Dealer Technical Support for Toyota Astra Motor (TAM) Didi Ahadi explained that poor quality fuel for diesel engines with higher sulfur content can accumulate in the catalytic converter components. The effect that is easiest to feel, he said, is that the exhaust will emit thick smoke which is actually detrimental to the environment and other road users."In fact, the exhaust emissions are bad," he said, Tuesday (29/3).Then Didi said there would be damage to components, especially the catalytic converter. The component is known to function as a means of controlling exhaust emissions which converts toxic gases and pollutants into more environmentally friendly."The affected part is the catalytic converter," said Didi.Pertamina on its official website says that low fuel quality will make the fuel filter work harder and more often than it should. The filter's job is to filter out the sulfur and water in the fuel.Just like other spare parts, if forced to work beyond capacity, the filter will quickly break down prematurely. In addition, other effects will also arise crust on the machine. Then too much dirt in the engine, it will clog, especially in modern diesel cars. The reason is, new diesel cars generally use the common rail, and it is said to be more sensitive and tends to get clogged more easily. If the engine is clogged, there will be a 'stretching' sound or so-called knocking. This impact occurs because the combustion process that occurs in the engine is not perfect. Then if left alone for a long time, the fuel injector pump can burst. As a result, the fuel does not flow properly and the engine will not run perfectly or even die completely.
