Understanding Exhaust Emissions And How To Suppress Them

phrase.id Motorized vehicles that use engines or ICEs must emit exhaust gases from the remainder of the combustion process called exhaust emissions. These emissions have a major impact on rising air pollution, so it is harmful to the environment in both the short term and the long term.

Combustion residues contain hazardous substances that have a negative impact on the environment, which can endanger human health.

The substances contained in it include:

Some bad effects of emissions for humans:

The first part of the body affected by these emissions is the breath. The danger is that the body will find it difficult to breathe and the excretion that accumulates in the lungs can lead to asthma, lung cancer. There will also be a lack of oxygen in the body because CO is more easily bound to red blood cells.

2. Damage to the circulatory system

Increased levels of CO in the blood that enter due to exposure to excretion will lead to increased blood viscosity and levels of inflammatory proteins. As a result, the body will react through inflammation or swelling. If this happens over a long period of time it will worsen and damage the blood vessels.

What is carcinogenic? Carcinogenicity is the nature of substances that can trigger cancer and organ damage in the human body. Substances that are present in exhaust gas emissions and are carcinogenic are lead and benzene.

Lead is dangerous because it can freeze on the surface of any object and if it makes contact with the skin it can cause impaired brain performance. Whereas inhaled benzene can interfere with the formation of red blood cells.

So, what can users of vehicles with engines that emit exhaust gas do if they cannot switch to vehicles that are more environmentally friendly?

Well, there are standards for exhaust gas that must be met so as not to harm the environment and pose a health hazard. In Indonesia, the exhaust emissions standard uses the Euro 4 emission standard as of April 2021. In this way, every vehicle emitting emissions must meet the set standards.

To find out, motor vehicle emissions tests are now encouraged to be carried out by motorized vehicle owners. This emission testing can be done in workshops, emission testing kiosks, emission testing vehicles (mobiles) at the Environmental Services Office. Its price is around IDR 150,000 to IDR 200,000.

In addition to doing emissions testing, something else can be done, namely by reducing exhaust emissions. The method is as follows:
